Explore the Unique Creations and Artistic Journey of a Renowned Multi-Disciplinary Artist
Mahen Perera is a multi-disciplinary artist living and working in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Perera trained at the National Design Centre in Colombo before pursuing a BA in Fine Arts at Lasalle College of the Arts in Singapore in affiliation with the Open University UK. He was awarded a first- class honors degree and was the recipient of the prestigious Winston Oh travel award in 2007. His works have been exhibited in Sri Lanka, Singapore, Vietnam and London.
Mahen Perera works within the ‘residual’. Often incorporating personal objects and material detritus collected on walks around Colombo, his works wrestles with schemes of memory, desire and fantasy. Undergoing a tedious process of ripping, knotting and stitching, Perera’s works undertake the task of manipulating into materiality the sensibilities of immaterial human impulses.
Perera’s recent exhibitions include Sea Change, Colombo Scope 2019; Stories Within, Saskia Fernando Gallery 2018; Project One with Vogue India 2016; Making History, Colombo Art Biennale 2014; and Serendipity Revealed, Brunei Gallery, London 2014. Perera is also represented by the Zilbeman Gallery, Istanbul and Berlin.
