In partnership with United nations Population Fund, Amilani Perera’s "bodyright 2.0" collection offers a powerful exploration of how technology can shape the experiences of women, emphasizing the potential for empowerment and the necessity of safety by design. The binary rose serves as a striking symbol, reflecting the duality of technology—its ability to uplift while posing challenges. Drawing inspiration from the divine Sigiriya ladies of ancient Sri Lankan cave paintings, the collection connects the strength of women throughout history to the present day. The leopard, a timeless symbol of the predator, reminds us of the ongoing need to address both physical and digital threats, while the binary rose vines that intertwine the leopards and ladies, symbolizes how society shapes the safety of the digital space. The fabrics in this collection not only tell a story, but also serve a purpose with handloom pieces woven by survivors of violence at the Kandy Women’s Development Center in Sri Lanka, empowering them with economic independence. The recycled polyester knits underscore the designer's commitment to sustainability. The color palette is bold and meaningful: scarlet represents the energy and excitement of technology, black for the challenges that still need to be overcome, and white for the potential outcomes for women navigating the digital age. The intertwined nature of the design symbolizes society’s evolving role in shaping a safer, more empowering technological landscape—one where her bodyright is built into design, ensuring women’s safety and inclusion in the digital world.
